Bought my first Toyota (1987 Xtra-Cab 4X4 22R) and have a few carb. questions
I went thorugh the carb the day after I made the purchase. It ran but didn't idle well. I had no kit, I just took care with the gaskets. The carburetor has been gone through before as the needle and seat looked new and the needle jet screw driver slot was ragged out. I could not remove it either. I know the fuel stop relay is missing the o-ring too.
#1: Can this needle jet (at the bottom of the bowl be bought new? because I can't get a good look at the one installed I am afraid it is causing poor meetering if its ragged.
#2: How do the flush jets (2 each) beween the choke half and throttle half come out? A slide hammer and machine screw? What about the little brass spiggot that 90's into the throat?
#3: Are there any check valves in the bowl area? There was one jet or check valve I could not seem to clear. It runs along the side of the bowl, vague I know.
#4: Lastly, I have two VSV's one next to the other. One has the large air filter (think nickel in diameter and an 3/4" long) on one end. This is connected to a tee and ??? and one end is free, just dangling. I cant make out the vacuum diagram on the underside of the hood to make it out. No manual shows my setup. Can anyone help here?
Thanks for taking the time,

Forgot to add, I think its using coolant but not a drop of anything on the concrete, although I can smell it in the engine bay while idling. My Snap on compression gauge shows 170-172 psi on all cyllinders except the rearmost, it reads 120 psi What can I do to narrow the problem down? Is it likely the coolant leak is connected to this issue (headgasket). There is nothing in the oil, no milk.

Napa is a good source for carb parts and kits. There is a metal tag under one of the screws that holds the top down that you will need the numbers from. With out the numbers they won't be able to find the parts. If you do buy a kit make sure the instruction sheet is the right one, my kit had the wrong one. If you check on this sight there are links for a fsm that will help you the other carb questions.
