Hey fellas,
I had a bad night last night. flipped my cleanest runner.
does anyone know if a 91 4runner body will bolt right up to a 95 runner frame?

if you find out you can swap body to frame, check with your local motor vehicle dept also to figure out what to do with the chassis and frame / vin numbers especially if it's ever driven on road.

Yes you should be able to. They did not change until 96 as far as I know. You will have different options and stuff but the frame should be the same.

i know the 96 through 2002 are supposed to be the same but the 96 has two less body mounts... they are all going to be different to a point but should work...

body swap

I cut the hood open today to look at the motor. The cap and rotor were smashed. so I replaced them. checked the oil and it was all missing. not much seemed to be around in the engine compartment. or spilled else where. so I filled her up. I had to rip out the broken fan shroud and a small piece of the air box. I then gave her another quick look over. put the key in and started it up. has a new exhaust leak at the cat. also oil started leaking out at both ends of the cat.
looks like some oil found its way into the exhaust while it was upside down. the exhaust smoked alittle but other then that it ran fine. I love these trucks.

You're lucky you didn't hydrolock the engine from the oil.

You should have pulled all the plugs, and turned it over to remove any oil that may be sitting on top of the pistons.

The 95 body should work. It would be best to check the FSM from both years and look at the body dimensions.

Thanks for all the comments, but has anyone done this swap before? so far I know there ill be issues with the speedometer cable. before I start tearing into this project it would be nice to know if it is a pain in the butt.

Well, a check on car-part.com shows an interchange on the rear clips. From what I saw, the front end assembly interchanges back to at least 92.

Again, checking the FSMs would probably tell you. No idea why the speedo cable would be an issue, but I'm not in your situation.

I swapped bodies (older Runner). BIG job. Not for the faint-hearted. It was worth it to me.

Regards the VIN and MV, I swapped the plates as applicable and called it good. I do have the title to the old donor truck. In my case the VIN was on a separate part anyway, that stayed with the drivetrain/frame.

body swap ?

Okay thanks for the info. I have two manuals for the last two 2nd gens I had. a 92 and a 93. I have checked these of course and so far so good. if I had the exact years I would not have to ask the question. If I have to buy a book every time I ask a question on this board , what is the point? does anyone have a copy of the frame dimensions page out of a 91 and a 95 fsm.?
As for the speedo cable, they are two different set ups all together.

Keep your dash/cluster/all interior/harness/ECM/everything, you're golden.

A body swap is definitely a unique situation that most people don't usually take on. It might just be worth the $10 to get on TIS and get the dimensions. I have the 91 Truck and 96 Runner manuals, so neither helps you there. The online manual I found was for a 95 Runner, but apparently isn't the full manual that they claim, cause the body section (BO) doesn't have it.

If you end up doing this swap, let me know. I could really use the driver side floorpan from your rolled one, if it's available.
