Body Swap

Does anyone know if a ifs truck body will swap to a solid axle frame with out modification. I am pretty sure it will but I thought I would ask anyway.

I already investigated this (as I needed a new frame) ... You can make any body mount to anything if you got the fabrication tools.

Things to remember, the 85 and older frames have different bed mounts for all models and I recall seeing some other differences. I looked at a few and made up my mind for the cost of a replacement frame ($50-$100 is all people sell them for) its MUCH wiser idea to find a frame that matches your year!

Also, Short bed ext cabs and single cab short beds use the same frame ... The difference is in a few mounts in the center (body and bed mounts are different). Long bed single cabs and long bed ext cabs use a longer frame and the rear axle is mounted further back (longer wheel base) and they use the split rear driveline so they got the double joint (forget what u call it) support on the driveline in the middle

I picked up a 1987 Single Cab Short bed frame for $100. I had access to a 30ft flad bed trailer and an F350. The frame also came with the front end totally intact so i put wheels on it and we wheeled it on the flat-bed. For $125 (gas) and I've already sold the 4.88's out of the front I've almost made my money back on it.

..... Some more...

If you plan to SAS properly, you have to replace the front hangars on an 85-older frame anyways. So if you think getting an older frame to save some work on SAS'ing think again. Not to mention you will be replacing the rear hangars as well ... So essentially to lift an 85 right you will the same work as sas'ing an 86+ ... Only catch is you gotta torch off the IFS.

Some stuff to consider =)

thanks for the info i'll keep it in mind

What i'm hoping on doing is swapping the body and drivetrain from my 1988
ifs truck, to an 1985 straight axle truck. There is nothing wrong with 1988 truck other then it is ifs. Also I will be parting out the 1985 truck if any one needs any thing
Thanks Again
Randy
