Blinking overdrive light?

1987 turbo 4runner
my OD off indicator light is blinking like a turn signal when the OD is on, which means the light should be off.
anybody want to guess why?

It's blinking codes. You can jumper e1 and te1 in the under-hood diag. box to make sure you get them all, read it like the CEL, count flashes and pauses.

This chart is for the A340H, but the E/F should be the same minus code 65.

At the same time the od light started blinking, the odometer, tripometer, speedometer all stopped working...
pulled the cable and nothing is wrong with it...
Haven't got the gear housing out yet, I suspect a broken or striped gear not turning the cable.
thank you for the info that will be very helpful, hadn't ever seen that before anywhere.
I didn't even think to look for a pattern...
