Easiest way to do a valve cover is degrease, clean, outgas, degrease, powder coat and then file off the pc on the letters. No masking required and a lot more permanent than just paint.

Looks like you are making some good progress!

In engnbldr's master gasket kit there is small bag with the valve cover grommets and pcv grommet. This bag also has several small o-rings (injectors?), a brass washer (banjo fitting to the fuel rail?), larger thick rubber ring (oil filler gasket?), and a two larger rubber rings w/ a groove on the inside (completely stumped on these); what are all these for?

yeah with a grove on the inside, the only thing I can think of is the t-stat gasket

Wabbit, I'm HOPING that the clear coat will help it to last a little better. If not after a while, I'll try and scrounge up an extra one, and find a place around here that can pouder-coat it

x2 thermostat gasket....and that copper washer for the fuel rail doesnt fit the best.. i ended up just buying most thoes little gaskets from toyota.. my gasket kit didnt come with coppers for the cold start injector.. just a heads up. also replace the other seals on the injectors (gromets) while your there.

now on to superbleeders build. lookin good man, i just got done doing a new motor in my runner.. wished that i would have rebuilt my old one instead of buying this long block (keep running into issues .. the most recent is coolant seeping out between the head and the block.. head gasket is possibly junk and i havent even fired it up yet. i cant wait to see the end product.. btw the valvecover looks bad to the a$$.. wish that i would have painted mine while it was off.

I'm sending my injectors off to witchhunter to get rebuilt and flow matched, and they include all new o-rings with the process not too bad for $18 an injector!

yeah I'm developing a list of little stuff to get from the local dealership, like the PCV hose and the other crank-case vent hose, the top coolant hose going to the IACV, and looks like I'll be adding all those brass fuel system washers to the list now too; thank you for bringing that up!

we'll see; I'll finialize the list once the kit comes in

out of curiousity, how was the idle with the combo? it would be AWESOME if it's real noticable, and it has a bit of an idle lump

aw man, really? I may go with 22re.com's RV2 cam. $3 cheaper after sending back the core, than the engnbldr one is even when paired with the head but idunno... can anyone speak of the quality of these cams?

that cam profile is really close to engnbldrs HO profile 270/430

22re.com RV2 profile 272/431

are you still going with his head cylinder then?

yeah; engnbldr has a rep I like, and the price on the head is pretty good too. I was expecting to pay around $500 for a quality stock head before I started looking at prices and options, lol.

where are you seeing the HO 270/430 cam? I can't find it on his web site?

lol, yeah I see that now

I e-mailed him about possibly getting that cam by itself, or along with the street rv head, so I'll wait and see what he says

alrighty, so, I talked with Ted from engnbldr, and after giving him the rundown of my plans for the truck, well, here, lemme just quote the e-mail:

Me:
"On a side note, I had a question about a cam shaft from you. The only two cam profiles I see listed on your web site is the 261 Crawler and 268 Torkr, but I was talking to someone on yotatech.com who mentioned they had purchased a 270/430 "HO" from you. I see you have a complete rebuild kit listed on eBay that includes this cam, but is this cam purchasable by itself, or more importantly, along with the Street RV head? Also, about that 270/430 cam if it is available for purchse, what kind of idle does it produce? I'd really like something that has a noticable lump at idle; I think it would sound really good through my PaceSetter header and cat-back kit. Do either of the other two cams, the 261 or 268, have a slight idle lump?"

Ted:
"Sure, we have the 270/430, it is the same price as the others. Both the 261C and 270/430 have a mild chattery idle quality. The 261C has better early response all the way to redline, the 270/430 has better mid to top end. Either cam can be added to the StreetRV as a package deal."

Me:
"Okay, I see, thank you! So would the 268 be right in the middle between the two, as far as powerband is concerned? The motor's bottom end is getting put back together stock (which I know the 22r lower end is pretty tough in stock form to begin with), so it's not going to see extremely high RPMs constantly, although I do have a tendancy to lay into the throttle a lot and bring the RPMs up there, and would like the power to stay somewhat solid all the way through. If anything, a little higher RPM powerband might be better, as it see's 3,000 RPM's + at 65-70mph on the road on it's daily commute, and struggled to maintain that speed in it's condition before this rebuild. The truck gets an occational off-road trail ride too, but low range gear keeps the RPMs higher, so I think a mid to high RPM powerband would be fine there too."

Ted:
"The 268C is actually a midrange cruising design. From your description I think you would like the 261C best of all."

So, my next question to my fellow yotatechers would be, from the people that have ran or are running the 261 cam from engnbldr, how do you like it?

I'm running the 268 and I do like it. Highways it does well, response is good. I'd like a bit more off idle but it's ok. Have not had it in the mud yet, Will be playing next month though. Hauling wood and pulling stumps in 4low it does real well. Hope this helps.

I hate Florida...

it has rained, non stop, EVERY FREAK'N DAY THIS WEEK...

and I'm dead serious...

anyone in the are can vouche for me...

the parking lot at work, yeah, it's been flooded for 3 days... I've been wading out to my truck (temporary truck I should say ) in the afternoons in ankle deep water...

needless to say, about the only thing I touched on my truck all week was putting my hood back on... even though I'll have to take it back off later...

this is so agrivating...
