I'm guessing you have found that the lower control arm doesn't drop out far enough. One option is to completely loosen the torsion bars so the arm moves freely. Another more typical option is to put the ball joint back in place, tire on, jack up that side and place something between the upper control arm and its bumpstop so that the arm does not drop as far when you lower it back down. Either will allow you to get the spacer in and also make it easy to trim that lip.

Remove the caliper to ease stress on the brake line if you haven't already and remove the ABS cable bracket too.

just undo the adjusting bolt.I found it easier to have the front end off the ground as it takes all the pressure off of the torsion bars

It's pretty easy. There is one cap screw for each side. With the wheels off the ground lubricate the tops of the cap screws wiping away any built up dirt, etc... and start loosening. There is a boat load of torsion (derivative of the work torque) bar adjusting info on here and the web as a whole.

I'm not sure about the climate where you are but in some parts of our country especially those where road salt is used, the nuts can freeze to the cap screw and either strip it or snap when one tries to adjust. In that case, you'll need to go do the dealer and get new capscrews/nuts.

If you think you fall into the rust belt category, spray the tops of the screws really well and let the lubricant seep in.
