Even if my Grandma gifted me a truck, it's still a gift. I would tell her that I appreciate it and I've enjoyed it but this GIFT, (definition) could be used to help me get something I would be better suited for the uses that I will need. She would understand as long as she knew how thankful I am for it. If your willing to take your gift and beat it with mud and she's fine with that, she'd be happy to know you sold it to spare its life, and to beat the crap out of something that a made more for it.

A gift is just that, a gift. It's given to you to do with what you want. Sell it and get a 4x4 then go play in the mud.

I never understand why a person would even try, b/c its not gonna help you. Buy a 4wd truck..
what is there to understand? i have a truck, i like my truck, i like having fun, mudding is fun, therefore i mud. stop trying to understand why i would want to mud in a 2wd and start trying to understand the meaning of life of something. the whole point of this was not to find out how to make my truck go trough any mud hole out there. it was to find out what peoples opinions were on what would get me just a little dirtier before having to get my bum yanked outa the mud.

Word.

I've taken my 90 Camry down some muddy roads from snow melt. 2wd drive vehicles are very capable if you can handle them. Granted 4wd is going to be much better, but run whatcha brung and have fun. We're all here for the same reason, we own Yotas, we like driving them, and we like talking about driving them.

if your gonna stick with your current rig, then lock the rear(which is gonna cost more then 200bucks, atleast if you go ARB), get nice lift, and get some bigger M/T tires...then give it a shot

Not sure, but could you run a spool in the rear (~$180?) and aggressive mud tires (Interco makes some 31x9.5 TSL radials I think)? Cut the fenders to get the tires on...or flatbed it. Sell the bed if it is good and use it for modding...

Would it be any different than a spool in a 4wd truck in two wheel drive?

run the spool up front in a 4wd so you only have it when locked into 4wd, wont effect on road driving

i can truthfully say, i have no idea what the spooling thing is about. however, the lockers are seemingly my best bet. ive bumped this to continue on the topic. ive started savin up money and wish my b-day in less than a week, i need to have a good list with all the pros i can get to give to my parents.

for the rear locker, over 200 bucks or so. ok. which locker is that going to be? this is my dd, and i drive it a lot. i get the rare chance to go offroad, and as of yet havent seen any real real mud. i want something that will be perfect for on-road first, but also can make a difference off-road. is the arb locker the one that u can switch on or off depending on where ur driving, or does it do that itself? and can i get a link to a site with prices and specs and such.

as for the tires, maybe i can find some sort of knobbys to throw on the back at some point, but i wont be cutting fenders or flatbedding. i may aim for a body lift to handle bigger tires.

I've seen some Toyota trucks, 4x4s with rear lockers, do some astounding things in 2WD. So, I've no reason to think a locker in a 2wd only would perform any different. Bigtime difference in the strength of the entire truck, practically everything is more sturdy on a 4x4. I say go for it though, I would.

Here's some things I'm wanting to mod for mud use.
Move radiator to bed.

And/or, Electric Fan, turn off when enjoying mudbath up to door handles.

nice hippy. i dont plan on goin deep into gunk. i just want to be able to go through a flat field thats got some ruts, (which of course i am making while its dry, yea donuts) when it rains and get myself dirty. also, i would like to be able to show off a little, just a little, when i go to special mud events and such. hopin to hit one in early june, so id like to have everything in by then.

and i feel ya on the 2wd being able to do some good stuff. i dont plan on going through a mile long 3 ft deep mud pit. i just want to get far enough in that it'll make for a good pic of someone pullin me out. lol.

listen I got an idea

So here's what you can do... It's going to be better to put a suspension lift because it actually raises the motor up higher away from the mud where a body lift just raises the body up around everything else. you have to extend your shifters etc to keep them from popping out of gear... body lifts are a pain. they are cheap and they do work to an extent (ie. you can use bigger tires to get some extra lift) alternatively you can build a lift buy getting some chevy leaf springs from a junkyard, cranking up your torsion bars a touch... you can easily get a few inches from just that. You could raise your front end 2 inches by cranking the torsion bars and get 2 inch lift shackles for the rear. There's a 2" suspension lift for ya. couple that with a 2 inch body lift. voila! 4 inches of lift for around $100 bucks. Kachow!

About the ARB. I priced them recently for my 83. Not cheap. Very cool but for the compressor, 200 bucks, and 700 for each of the lockers. There are electric lockers out there that are cheaper but I dont have ant firsthand experience with them. And yes you can turn them on and off with the flick of a switch.

2wd trucks=light trails/hauling plywood
cant get much simpler.

while i personally dont understand why you want to spend money on a 2wd truck for offroading, but i dont understand why people slam their trucks to the ground either, but what makes you happy is more power to ya.

locker, tires and a winch are on the top of your list for mods. and fyi a spool is a cheap form of locking, its full time locked solid and from what i understand make for horrible on road driving

lmao. nice swamp. first off, for infinity, all vehicles are made for trasportation. vehicles may be modified to fit the owner tastes and wants. im the owner, and my tastes include mud. sooo, i believe i'll do whatever i want in my 2wd. i've already given an answer to the not understanding part. theres not much to understand.

now, are there cheaper lockers that wont affect on-road driving? i dont see them happening in the near future, but it would be nice to have the info handy. as for the shackles and torsion bar, those were my first thoughts, and im still researching on it. i should have the money for an allignment soon, but im not sure about the shackles. i dont want to go the ultra cheap route and buy the advance auto parts zone shackles, but i cant seem to find what im looking for. any help there?
