Ok so since the spring is upon us finally here in NJ i need to start preparing to do some work on the truck...the first thing that is on my list is i wanna rid the truck of any existing rust...so i figure if i can remove the bed, if my thoughts are correct it cant be that hard, that would give me the most direct route at addressing the problem areas in the rear...basically what im looking for is some direction on bed removal....it will only be off for probably a day or maybe two, then it will be goin back on..

i think its like 6 bolts and then remove the wiring for the lights. but im not positive, im gonna try to do it today and flatbed my truck so we will see!

 

thats basically what i was figuring, my only true worry is the gas tank filler neck...i gotta take a closer look but from just memory i cant think of a way to remove it.

let me know how it went and difficulty, as im prolly gonna be doing thing in the upcoming weeks if not this week...thanks!

 

I removed my bed this past summer. Not too bad...I believe it is six bolts-they feel like they are just spinning, but they have to spin in order for a tab to hit the side in order to loosten (sounds strange, but you will understand once you do it). I would recommend spraying them with PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil for a couple days prior to removal. The next step is to disconnect the wiring for the lights. Then, you need to remove three (?) screws on the filler neck. I took the tailgate off to make the bed lighter to move. You can remove it with two people, but four would have been easier. Have fun! I removed mine to replace my fuel filter tank brackett and repaint the frame.

 

cool, thanks for the insight...ive been hitting those six bolts with stuff for like 2 weeks now so they should be just about ready to come out...im also gonna try and clean them up as much as possible.i plan on doing just about the same, painting the frame, and also doing my fuel filter since i couldnt get the tranny crossmember off and i didnt have any air tools on me

 

Im gonna paint my frame and flat bed the truck using the stock bed pan, im tired of breaking taillights

 

i got a long bed and when i removed my bed to do my body lift/paint the frame i removed 8 bolts not sure if it is just a long bed thing but there was 4 in front of the rear axle and 4 behind it, then you need to dissconnect the tail lights and the wire harness needs to remain on the frame behind the roll pan (you will see you you and your buddies start pulling the bed off. three screws by the filler neck and thats it, O 1 last thing if you are going to keep the bend right side up (inside of the bed facing the sky) then i would suggest removing the mudflaps because those hang down and will get bent, and you won't have to worry about them...just my 2 cents

 

it's 8 bolts ... look for 2 on the very rear .. in the frame chanels ..
