bearing direction

i'm currently reassembling the short block on my 22-re but I forgot to take note of which way the center bearings sit. Its not the bearing that the crankshaft actually sits on, it's the 2 bearings on the outside of the #3 crankshaft cap. They both have 2 oil grooves in them and i dont know if the grooves are supposed to be facing in or out. I'm going to ask my instrructor when I get back to class but any help is appreciated thank you

On the same subject...

I've been searching for the past few days on these thrust washers, and finally found some answers here.

I found the 4 thrust washers in my oil pan the other day. What's involved in installing new ones, or am i kinda screwed now? Now that i know where they're supposed to sit on the crank, how do they stay there, and does the crank need to be removed for installation of these? I'm guessing they fit into the main bearing cap somehow?

I'll be dammed if i can find a breakdown diagram online of the crank and all the bearing locations.

I just got the truck in non-running condition. I was in the process of chaning out the oil pump and timing chain when i found this, and it stopped me in my tracks. I was getting no oil pressure.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Usually it screws the crank and the block/cap up.

I found one this way when doing a clutch for someone with no money. Bought some new ones, and ended up JB welding them into place in the block and main cap. Not pretty, but cheaper than new block/crank. They know it is just a patch to help them out

This is usually caused by holding the clutch in too long (like at stop lights, drive through coffee stands, etc)

Thanks, Yoda, that makes perfect sense.

So who wants to buy a complete toyota? Just kidding. I'll put it in the correct section when i'm ready.

It makes sense that perhaps the clutch fork could put pressure to the crank by holding it for too long. At least that's how i see how it could happen.
