battery and parking brake lights on
I have a 91 p/u 22re ext cab truck 225,000 miles. The parking brake and battery lights have started to come on at the same time. It just started the other day. They would come on and then 15min later go off. I would park for the day and on the way home no problem, parked and later went out to the store, they would come on again and flicker on off and finally stayed off. This morning they were off all the way into work until I stopped for gas and stayed on for the last mile before I parked it. I checked as much as I could --but any other ideas as to what I can check for. I know it is related to the alternator and this is the original alternator--is it time to buy a new one. Thanks.

It's time to rebuild your Alternator. Parts are available from your dealer or NAPA - original Toy parts are better.
as I recall, for my '87 22ARE the correct Toyota Part is:
# 27370-35060, HOLDER S/A,
(a complete brush holder sub-assembly)
have your dealer check that for your year...
Remove the alternator- I found that it was easier to pull the fresh air intake and top off the air box.
The brush holder is under the dust cover. Remove the 3 nuts that hold it on, loosen the nut on the main copper terminal, the cover should pull straight off. remove the 2 screws that retain the brush holder, R/R it, replace the cover.
The stock Toy alternator is ten times better than anything you can get that's been rebuilt from a parts house...
