battery isolator

i have a 1986 toyota escaper motorhome and can't seem to get the battery to charge. when tested in the vehicle the machine says my regulator is bad on my alt. when the alt is tested out of the vehicle it tests fine. could the battery isolator be the problem? what does it look like?

This does have two batteries ?

The isolator should have the positive cables from both batteries running to it.

Because these are finished by the up fitter no way to know just where the added electrical parts might be.

Do the batteries charge when charged with a battery charger ??

FIRST THINGS FIRST: GOT A MULTI-METER?

The difference between bench testing and ON-Vehicle testing? Old, possibly corroded/brittle connections and wiring. Inspect those first.
