Battery and Brake Light on

Well i did a little 4 wheelin yesterday and after i went through a puddle the battery light and the brake light came on..... However it was charging at 12.6volts and didnt drop with the lights on also the brake light came on like the ebrake was pulled but it wasnt? maybe something got wet??? any help would be great i gotta drive upstate in a few hours

12.6 sounds a bit low. I think it should be around 14-18. with the engine running remove the positive battery cable. If it dies you got a bad alternator, which is what I would suspect if you got it wet and muddy.

sounds like you got water in the alt. take some CRC to it

then some compressed air. test the alt again and see if you're getting closer to 14v. otherwise it may be time to replace.

the brake light on is just in conjunction with the batt light to get your attention to low charge condition. good luck bro!

if its only putting out 12.6v the alt is dead. probably got mud/water in it. don't pull the cable while the engines running, it can do damage to the computer. check the voltage, and then start it and check the voltage. if its the same that would indicate the alt isnt charging anything. also the lights mean the battery isnt charging

well you were all right swapped out the alternator for a new one that cost me a pretty penny $150.00 also did a new battery for $80 and some terminals but the lights are gone and shes chargin its all good now

lmao figures wish i wouldve known the old alt went in for core charge plus now i got a lifetime warranty for next time =)
