Bad temp sensor or gauge?

1991 toyota pickup 3VZE.. replaced thermostat, brand new radiator, heat works and what not. But the temp gauge climbs al the way to hot and sits there regardless of moving or not, but the truck is clearly not overheating and is running perfect. It is worth noting that the gas gauge has also stopped working properaly. So i'm assuming that the gauge cluster has some bad connections somewhere? Please help

there's a little wire on the back of the sensor that goes bad. when I fire my truck up in the morning the gauge goes to half. then drops down to cold, then shoots right back up to half. I installed an aftermarket electric gauge and tied it into my ignition for the gauge part and headlight switch for the lighting. I'll post a few pictures / videos.

sensor tapped into upper radiator casting neck.
