Bad motor mount (I think) easy/hard to replace?

Okay, so while fixing some other things on the truck my dad suggested I check the motor mount on the drivers side. My fan shroud is toast (was when I got the truck) and he said that usually means it busted off when the fan hit it, which means the mount (or both) is bad. We looked and there were grooves in the fan to back up this theory.

I also noticed a nice groove in the side of my battery from one of the belts/pulleys (sorry, don't know the technical name for it) which also supports the bad mount theory.

Does the engine need to come out to replace these? Can I just jack the engine up as suggested by another on this site?

1990 4Runner V6 3.0 (3vze) 4WD

On a scale of 1-10 (including time spent in the equation), how hard is this to do? Anyone know of a good price for mounts?

Mike

Lift motor with best safe means avalible
unbolt and replace

I have used my stock jack off my frame rail to the block and fix one side at a time before.

there is a pannel in the wheel well for access 4 10mm bolts
with some wiggling you can fix your starter throught the hole also for future ref.

pm if you have more ? i will try my best to help

I've never done it on a Yota but another way you might try, if available, is to disconnect both motor mounts, attach an engine lift and CAREFULLY jack up the motor from the top. I would also support it from underneath to protect your fingers.

PROBABLY about a 3 on the difficulty meter (if that). Lift the motor up and change them out, really isn't too hard. If you don't have a lift use a jack, but be careful. If using a jack, I would do one side at a time. Don't just place the jack under your oil pan either. Some guys with the 4cyl. will do this with a piece of wood between the jack and the pan. You can be creative if you don't have a lift. Use a chain in a tree, or a comealong.
