bad headgasket? bored over?

im going to look at a 88runner tomorrow. the guy has pulled the v6 engine because there was oil in the water. he said the engine was rebuilt and bored 50 over. he had the heads inspected and they were pressure tested and fine no cracks. so my question is, with the bore will i need custom headgaskets? or will the oem ones work. also how can i tell if they are truely bored over? last but not least. what besides the heads/headgasket could put oil in the water? are the headstuds a 1time use? ect. any information would be helpful thank you guys. hope to be on here alot soon when i find my own runner! alex

I dont know about the rest but yes factory head studs are made for one time use. People use them over again but your not sposed to (I admit I have). ARP head studs can be used multiple times.

I will admit I am no expert when it comes to toyota v6 engines but I know a little about engines in general. I'm guessing the heads are off at this point, pistons are sometimes marked with the oversize bore size. There is a machinist gauge that measures the inside diameter of the bore, I think something like this is not worth the $ just to know your bore size.

The stock head gaskets should work fine, I have used stock head gaskets on a .25 over bore on my motorcycle engines with no problem. Now there may be something specific with toyota v6 engines that I don't know about but I doubt it.
