So you set your DFTDC to 13? I would change it back to 10 or 12 as they said if advancing it.. Also what spark plug wire did you get? try them OEM wire instead if you are using other brand, and you might also want to check your ground connector and clean them if needed. What I know from this is from my experience so I'm trying to help alittle here if any of my input will help...

Man I feel you on the bad gas mileage. I get @14-16mpg on my 3.0l. I recently did the deckplate mod (to get more air into the intake). It seems to have better throttle response. I'm waiting to fill up again to check if I gained mpg's.

Well guess what guys...the check engine light kicked last night. So I called my mechanic up and with a few choice words he is going to let me bring it in and see what code it is giving now. Thanks for all the help and I will be updating this thread as I get info.

As far as checking the check engine light flashing codes where would I find the what the flashing codes meant? I hope you know what i mean.

Look in the Factory shop manual, I think the 93 codes will work in yours.

Update: Ok so on my way home lastnight from work (I work in phx AZ) my check engine light turned off. Now my truck is running better. With more power. Now I figured out that my tuck has more power and better response when the air is cooler. Like during the night, now I know that it is hard on an engine when it hot out but not -4to5 mpg harder.

Oh where in the above manuel are the check engine codes. I looked for them for about 20min.

My paper manual for an 89 has them in Emission control system section covering 12 21 22 25 26 31 42 71 and 71. and the EFI system covering 12 13 14 21 22 24 25 26 27 31 41 42 43 52 53 71 and 51

The 93 manual seems to have them in a the MFI system and maybe they are in the emission conrtol system as well, but I didnt look at every page. You have to start from the Engine link , then dig through the listings.

My check engine light is not on and I ran the codes and it gave me code 71. The truck runs fine and I get great gas mileage so I am not worried about it. However in the not so distant future I am going to rebuild the top and front end of my motor and will in the process completely redo the EGR system. Hopefully that will help things.
