I have a 93 with the 3vze and like a moron ran it about 2 quarts low on oil
I still had good oil pressure (of course this is at the bottom end only)
I now have what sounds to me like lifter noise, but it is not consistent
at wot it goes away, zero throttle it goes away, low revs no noise, it starts at about 2000 rpm, and only at mild/light throttle position. I think I'll be doing lifters and shims but don't want to take the time/money if this may not be my problem. any thoughts?

I have the same exact problem

 

Ditto, I even tried putting in some atf before my last oilo chang, and it helped some.

 

Make sure it is a lifter that you are hearing. I had the same problem, and found out later that it was an injector making the sound.
