backward headgasket? how do I know?

Some of you may remember my earlier threads about intermittent overheating.

Since the shop that did my headgaskets wasn't solving the problem, I took it to another shop for their opinion. They are saying that the headgaskets were improperly installed, and that you can see a part of the headgasket sticking out (I'm going after work to check it out). Does this sound right? If they're not in properly, does a part of the gasket stick out?

all the holes (coolant passages, etc) should be free, and not have pieces of gasket hanging into them. I believe the issue was partially covering a coolant passage

yes you can reverse the head gasgets, i have and that overheated. the thing is though that you will always overheat when you have the headgasgets reversed. the only way i was able to keep it from overheating was to take out my thermostat, but then it took way to long to get the engine to operating temperature.

See, maybe mine aren't in wrong, because I only have an intermittent problem, and even then it doesn't overheat but runs hotter than normal.
