Back to the Future

It seems if I open the throttle just a little. It doesn't compress back all the way making it idle high. You have to be very gentle as if you are driving like an old lady (which I am).
So I dunno. The tb is not closing all the way when you open it very slowly. Like my driving.

I've tried tapping the TPS but nothing has changed.
Right now I have the TB off and trying to re test #2 & 3. I am adjusting the TPS CW/CCW to where I get resistance in #2 but infinite in #3.
Right now I cannot get both to comply.

I would bite the bullet and get yourself a new TPS. Its what I did and I fixed my problem. You also need to get that dashpot properly adjusted. You could try the latter first and see if it cooperates. I also recommend thoroughly cleaning out all the passages on your tb. I took a q-tip to all of them until black stopped showing up on the q-tip.

Before I start looking for a new TPS, is it suppose to be this much of a pain in the ass to get steps #2 & #3 to work?
If so I will try a few more times and then throw in the towel.
Just in case

No. I was able to calibrate mine in 10 mins. But then again that was a brand new one being freshly installed. I really do think that your TPS is bad. If you do a search you will find that they along with the timing chain guides are the two things that go bad on these motors. They are tanks otherwise.

The TPS was a PITA for me to adjust and I had to do it twice recently with my rebuild. It's a lot of screwing one adjustment screw in a TAD, then slowly moving to get within spec, and then testing all 4 tests again before fully tightening both screws....you'll get the hang of it. I ended up replacing mine with allen screws so I could adjust it while it's ON THE TRUCK in the future (otherwise you have to drain coolant and remove TB each time...lame). take a screw to HW store and match it up - that easy.
For the dashpot, it's as simple as breaking that adjustment nut (8mm or 10mm) and then hand loosening it a few turns...to adjust the screw in the photo you posted, the end of the scew is actually hollowed out with an allen wrench opening - that's how you adjust while holding the lock nut in place. Once loose, you can also just back that screw off by hand and then tighten the nut. The throttle screw adjusts the same way - and as 4Crawler's site says, you want to adjust that BEFORE you do any TPS adjustment

Good luck!

I can say that this is "sticking" less compared to yesterday. I wished I brought my tools with me so I can adjust this nut on the go.
I did pull over twice to help decompress this plunger if that's the name if it. The rubber around the spring is ripped and I'm sure some dirt got in there over a period of time which is probably not letting it compress all the way.
I'll try cleaning it and re greasing along with the bellow

I sprayed it with some brake cleaner and a little WD40. Tomorrow is another day!

I really hate to take this TB off again but this is pissing me off. Maybe I'm not doing something right.
Yesterday I tried cleaning it with the brake cleaner and some WD40. I tried using brake cleaner to help clean anything clogging in the bellow.
I'm constantly adjusting the nut and still the same thing.

Since the rubber diaphragm was ripped, I took it off thinking it was helping the issue.
Again. This thing is not compressing all the way down and it's holding my throttle anywhere from 13-16k rpm. If I turn off the truck and back on, yeah everything is back to normal until I tap on the gas or throw it in neutral.
MAN, I never had to adjust any of this before until now. Damn you gremlins!! Damn you to hell!

Have you adjusyed it so that the dashpot screw is not even touching the throttle ? Do that, and see if the symptoms persist. If they don't, it's your dashpot that's the issue. If they do, likely it is the tps. Isolate the possible causes and take them out of the equation

o.k
I have the TB off and cleaned the dashpot AGAIN and added some WD40.
Philbert, I unscrewed the bolt all the way so the dash pot is extended all the way. Now putting everything back on.
Oh and I have a coolant leak now!! I've ordered a new bypass hose. The one that connects to the TB and thermostat.
AWESOME!
