Auto Trans question
So my tranny recently started making a horrible noise and upon a lil digging around i noticed that a couple of the bolts connecting the flex plate to torque converter had completely backed out and the ones that were still there were all loose. So I replaced the missing bolts and tightened down the rest, but now there is a vibration thats feels like its coming from the trans. It gets worse at highway speeds. Could the it be that the flex plate and torque converter some how got out of balance? or is it something more serious??

Sounds to me like a cracked flexplate. Does the vibration happen even without the truck moving? If so, you can elminate any moving drivetrain parts such as drivelines, rear end, or axles. If the bolts backed out and allowed the flexplate to move or vibrate too much, it can crack at the crankshaft bolts.
Next time, make sure you use loc-tite on the torque converter bolts.

Did you notice one of those bolts is different than the others, both in color and shoulder size. That bolt is suppost to be threaded in first, kind of a centering thing. Don't know if that will help or not. Good luck
EDIT: Yeah Death that was a thought I had too.

its only when the truck is moving, or really only when accelerating. if im rolling down the road and let off the gas the vibration stops, and comes back as soon as i hit the gas again. Also at 55-60 if i let off the gas theres a "whirring" sound for lack of a better term. It sounds like a rotational decelerating sound and stops after a second of two

Very common.
Use to see it all the time.

which bolt holes? the ones on the flex plate? well... if you're getting a new flex plate, it should be balanced fine so no vibes from it.
a normal torque converter should feel like your's did before it started making noise and vibrating. just step on the skinny pedal and go.
the only thing I might be concerned with is the pilot opening on the end of the crank. if the torque converter was loose and wobbling long enough, it could cause the pilot hole to become 'out of round' thus not centering the torque converter properly.

since this thread has re-surfaced... Sin91's 2wd... all the torque converter bolts are the same. Shouldn't there have been 5 bolts the same and one different?
maybe it's a 2/4wd thing.
