Auto Tranny Service Parts

I have never had an auto tranny before so I'm a little new to the up-keep and service of them.

I have to have my rear main oil seal replaced so that means the tranny is coming out. I want to do a full fluid exchange and a filter change. Obviously I will need the fluid (any recomendations) and a filter. Is it a screw on type filter of do you buy a kit with a pan filter and new gasket? Anything else to relpace and check while it's out?

Also if anyone has PN for the filter and anything else I may need that would be swell. I feel like such a newb!

Thanks!
Lamm

Toyota auto tranny's just have a screen filter. When you drop the pan, you just pull the screen and wash it off.

Neat, so all that is needed is a new gasket I assume?

and some ATF of course LOL

NOTE: I'm going off my experience with my Impala and what I've read - my 4Runner is a manual tranny, so be sure to check out the FSM and everything!

My favourite FIPG is called "the right stuff" by Permatex. It is awesome. You stick the tube in a caulking gun and go at it. I used it for everything on my '93 4R. All the coolant flanges on the top end of the engine that called for FIPG, the half moons on my valve cover gaskets, and also the tranny pan. I used it on the tranny pan of my '02 4R also.

I believe toyota has a couple of different colors for the FIPG based on what it will be used for. The one for the tranny pan is red or pink.
