Anyone run a dash cam on their 1st gen?

Anyone run a dash cam on their 1st gen?
Friend (Lets refer to him as bob) of mine had some jackass (Refer to him as Jackass) try to road scam him by sideswiping him and claiming that bob swerved into his lane. 
Thankfully someone saw the incident and cleared bob, and got Jackass some fines.
Got me thinking about getting a dash cam, as I'm a prime target (old 'yota, 17 y/o driver, NC comes down hard on teens and accidents/tickets).
Anyway, im thinking of one that hard wires into the rig and starts and stops when I turn the key. I want to see what other members here are running to help me pick a cam.

I have one that came from eBay. It plugs into the lighter plug, and turns on and records on startup. It is setup to record 5 min. clips, and can also be configured to delete old clips when the SD card gets full. I also have onboard forward and reverse cams mounted in the front grill and rear below the tailgate. These are connected to a 2 channel DVR, and the 7" carputer mounted in the dash. The rearview cam is used normally on the road, and switches on in reverse. Both are also used for taking offroad video.

No offense (since I also have an 89 4Runner) but when I see an older vehicle I assume they are not insured and try to stay away. I'd pick a new BMW to slam in to if I were an insurance scammer since they all drive like asshats and have insurance required with their car loans.
The Go Pro is a good idea. When you park you need to have a diversion so no one breaks in to steal it. I used to have a friend that cut the bottom out of a square tissue box to cover an (illegal in Virginia) radar detector. Cover it only after parked of course.
