Anyone have problems with the new HG since the recall?

I see that lots of people have had the recall done at Toyota. Just curious if, or how many people have had the new head gaskets fail since then? Im at 195K and Toyota did mine at 100K.

No problem here but there have been some on here who have had the head gasket go after the recall. Usually shortly afterward. Usually it was from not replacing the bolts, incorrect torque, or another bad gasket. You have 95K on yours so I wouldn't worry to much.

Is this recall still valid, the dealer in my town told me it was void. I have a 94 4runner that just crapped the head gasket the other day. All at a 100k on the odometer not very toyota like I might say

I had the original HG repaced through the recall/service campaign at 83K. I believe replacment HG started to fail somewhere around 200K. It completely blew at 210K. The failure was at Cylinder #6 and there was a near failure at Cylinder #1. That said, the redesigned head gaskets might be "Better" but they still appear to fail at the same locations that the recalled gaskets did.
Since you've got similar miles on your HG, keep an eye on your Coolant and Oil levels and condition.
In my case I noticed a small loss of coolant around 205K, which I believe(hindsight) was an indicator that the head gasket was leaking a bit. Then at 210K, white smoke out the tailpipe on startup.. significant coolant loss. The oil, in my case, was clean and had no signs of coolant contamination.

Mine went all at once, at 104k. started running like fuel filter was bad and on inspection found coolant coming out of of intake manifold. Guess I will have a project on my hands for a few days.

From what I understand my truck had two headgasket jobs before I owned it. The last set blew at arund 190K, so after the last recall. I honestly think its less to do with the HG quality at this point than it does with extreme amounts of heat. If you look at your exhaust manifolds, you'll see what I mean. Horrible design.

Find yourself another dealer. When I brought in my 4runner to have them listen to my rod knock, they looked to see if the HG recall had been done. If it hadn't they said they could have opened it up down at least that far for free. Too bad it's been done already.

mine was replaced under recall around 90k miles or so, replaced again at 239k miles. x2 on the exhaust manifold. headers are THE way to go IF you buy a good set.

My head gasket went on my 95 at 156k miles, fixed it and now I'm at 164k and it runs great for a 3.0. I'm going to get a 3rd gen next year around tax return time and solve my 3.0 problems once and for all. I'm sick of putting money into this engine which still only gets 14mpg MAX around town. I do have an auto though.

Ok so thats what i was wondering...If the new gaskets really solved the problem, or just bought you some more time until the heat destroyed the HG again. So it's more of a design problem than anything. I would love to get a good set of headers to get a little more power and life out of the 3.0. But i hear a lot about heat problems and cooking everything under the truck. I looked into the Y-pipe mod instead, but wouldn't it still give off heat like the headers do? Also i think i read somewhere that headers were not designed to be wrapped. Its better for the truck, but doesn't it hold in heat which is something we dont want for the 3.0? Thanks for the info!

My truck had the HG done at 90k miles, then I bought it. I put 218k miles on it before the #2 cylinder blew a gasket. I rebuilt the entire engine. I think mine was due to overheating the engine twice in one year.
