OKAY, so on this tank we have:

14.93 gallons

305.2 miles (per the GPS)
280.5 miles (per odometer)

gives me .919 when dividing the two, compared to the .92 I got in the test in the first post, so I'm going to go by the GPS since it seems to be fairly accurate

20.44 MPG

still pretty good, even if I did drop a mpg, but I'll blame that on running the AC, since it warmed up a little

SO, I've started off this tank by laying into the throttle some and plan to keep doing so until this tank is empty, and then I'll see what we get

I've already learned two things from getting on the throttle hard:

1) My 22re REALLY doesn't seem to like to be babied... the first time I hit wide open throttle and held it all the way to about 5k, she billowed smoke, and it smelled horrible, LOL. The second time it smoked a little but not as bad. But once that cleared up, I learned lesson number 2

2) I forgot just how much "pep" this new 22re really has

Sweet, I am still getting about 21 with my exhaust leak, but the 4.56's should be going in next week! I did take a road trip to bellingham the other day to get the gears, and on the 250 mile round trip in my 88 2wd 22r 4 speed and hit 30 mpg! I ran it between 2800 to 3200 rpm the whole way (70 to 75) I was amazed at that one!!

Well, a week later, and the results are in!

Constant laying on the throttle, so called "jack-rabbit" starts at full throttle from a red light, and routinely holding wide open throttle in excess of 4k RPMs, and here's what I got

Consumed 15.079 gallons
Went 279.5 miles per the odometer
Showed 303 miles on the GPS

I STILL GOT JUST OVER 20 MPG!!!

Strange, but I'm not going to complain, LMAO

So now I'm testing mixed driving; a little crazy driving, and a little civil driving, and we'll see what happens with that

My carbed stock 86 back when it was running properly never dipped below 20.something. It held a narrow range of 20.5 to 22ish MPG regardless of how or where I drove it.

You have more power, plus you're running 31" tires. Even trying to burn gas you couldn't drop below 20. Can't ask for better.

Loving the math to help with mileage calculations. I too have 31x10.50's on a stock rig with 4.10's and I average about 21 city and highway. Yeah ts a 5-speed 22re, and yeah its a 4x4 so I think I'm doing alright. Looking for more MPG after the tune up. LOL
