i found this guy selling a complete set of diff's with 4.88 for 400.00 but before i jump in the truck an drive my self to the IE.i want to make sure they fit my 4 runner
the add says something like this

for sale a V6 8.0 rear diff,with 4.88 gear ratio.. and a front 7.5 with 4.88 ratio out of a ifs truck
my question it's??????
there is any diference between my 4 cyl,diff's and those v6 it's a direct bolt on?my 4 runner its ifs 2

they will fit. the v6 diff is stronger than your 4cyl diff.

 

If they're complete, I'd say go for it.

If you don't want them, I'd take em.

 

Thats what you will want. I just threw a V6 4.56 rear third in my 87. Fit just fine. Even the drive shaft flange matched up perfectly. The front was a 4 cyl I got from someone else though.

I forget what rig you have, so I don't know if you have Auto Disconnecting Diff up front. Might be something you will have to address. There are some write ups and links on here on how to disable it.

PM Tofer about his "studless IFS diff kit" He has the hardware that will make swapping the front diff way easier.

I just checked out a couple write-ups on here and dove in. Went fairly smooth. The write ups were dead on.

Is the 4.88 an ADD front, though? Thats what I was getting at. If you have an extra set of hands it'll take you a couple of smooth, beer drinking hours to swap em. $400 is pretty good deal, I say get em. From yards around here, $500 was the best I found 4.56's for.

Should be no trouble swapping from V6 to 4 cyl and vice versa. If they are actually 4.88s are they factory or aftermarket gears? If factory those are quite rare and you can only put in OEM Toyota gears due to the thinner (or was it thicker?) ring gear.
