Another cooling system thread :(

Hey guys having trouble with my truck over heating brand new motor. Gets over the top line and close to red in 10min of driving.

Worked fine before I cleaned the coolant system with prestone cleaner.

New thermostat opens at 190
New water pump
Radiator caps in good condition
Flow from the top of the radiator down is 100% flowing not clogged
Top radiator hose super hard and hot after running bottom stays cool

When I pulled the bottom hose off the radiator the radiator drained and not much from the block, this is with thermostat removed and coolant at the top. I pulled the hose that feeds from the heater core to block and the block drained that way not from bottom hose? that normal?

What should I check? Block plugged?

I need help!

Thanks,
ANdrew

Thermostat in backwards? Try running without thermostat and see what happens.

22R, R-E, or 3.0?

Might need to flush it all again, the Prestone cleaner might have dislodged some stuff that's now trapped. You didn't mention doing it before so you should probably remove the block plug when draining and flushing. Include the heater core in your flush but do it while it's unhooked from the system.

When did you test the thermostat, before you installed it or once you were having problems? You could just have a bum thermostat. There are plenty of new ones out there that fail after just a couple of uses. It can even happen to factory parts but you don't hear about that happening as much with the Japanese produced parts.

If you flush it again and install another new thermostat and you still have problems you might want to take it to a shop for a real flush and clean and maybe have the radiator worked over.

A thread to have a look at https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...g-rust-288555/

After some searching I found you have a 1988 Pickup with a 22re.

You should always include this information when you want any kind of engine/drive-train information as there won't be nearly as much guessing going on and more people will be likely to help.

Fan/Fan Clutch operation okay..?

Overheating after 10 mins is sounds like a flow issue. Retrace steps and verify everything is correct. Radiator fins restricted? Radiator fins damaged and or dirty...? Keep it simple the 22R cooling system is very easy to deal with.
