The swaps are pricey, although I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 3VZE and I just hit $3k... I ordered a Super Stock rebuild from Oregon Engines, I'm doing a new exhaust and replacing numerous sensors, connectors, vac lines - etc. I should have just gone ahead with the swap... but a good 3.4 is difficult to find.
I don't think you have to change the transmission - at least thats the case for my automatic. There are several write-ups on swaps here. Take a look and see what you can find.

yea i know i let my block sit with water in one of the cyclinder and it rusted so i had to get an other block i spent about $1200-$1400 just on parts and macheing i did all the work so yea its a lot of money to rebuild a 3.0 but i think the 3.4 wont bolt on to 3.0 tranny but who knows im just a newbie im more of an AE86 guy

Jajaja bad porno...sorry matt16 I used my phone to made the clip.
Hey 9four4runner, after you did your rebuilt, did you notice a big different of power from the engine....
Hey loco, $3,000 is a lot. I bought this runner for $1000 and only have spend like $450 on it...right now I am just driving it to and from work..not even a mile from where I live...I am going to try to adjust the valves and the timing belt....however, I have been looking for the shims online and can't find them...
