Rather then trying to drop the diff, why not just unbolt the engine mounts and lift the motor. Place a jack under the bell housing or tranny, whichever gives you more room, and lift it from there. It should give you at least 2"-3" of room to maneuver the pan on. you don't even have to unbolt the tranny from its mounts...still waiting for the malasadas, Oh and one more thing, when come across a difficult situation, the best thing to do is stop and take a breathe of the island air brudda, when you work angry, you tend to force things which leads to more harm then good.... adapt and overcome....

ya know, i've heard the above suggestion more than a few times and i'm all for you trying it..

ditto on the deep breathing thing......even though i have alot of help from the YOTATECH crew, it's still me alone in the garage, figuring crap out...i ask alot of questions and stop ALOT.
Thanks primo sa the front diff. is pissing me off. I called it in early today since I have school tomorrow and I gotta do laundry and read some. I'm gonna slowly work on the truck throughout the week, maybe the the top end reassembled.
Only problem is my labeling of vac hoses wasn't as good as I thought and I'm working blind at times. I gotta read up on everyone's rebuilds and whatnot. My jack is only a tiny two ton so I'm on a mission to find some left over wood to get it high enough to raise the bellhousing (excellent idea btw)
No pictures for today since putting the fuel rail and erg device are minors. Oh and I tried removing the cv's.... Not gonna happen for roger. That would be too convenient.
Stepside where are you living now?

use your spare tire and a plywood for your platform for the jack. That should give you enough height to reach your tranny. Incase you haven't done it already, dab a little grease on your crank seal before you put your pulley on. You don't want to turn your motor on a dry seal (you run the risk of tearing it). as for the motor mounts, just unscrew the center nuts (12mm.-14mm.???), and jack that bad boy up! I am orig. from the 671(Homegrown), but in the last several years, been traveling around. Currently in the 503 for a few and then who knows, maybe back to 808 for awhile. I like to stay "invisible"(taotaomona yu), but every now and then I check into here, so i'll try and get your back on this. Take your time on this chelu (I know you don't have alot of it) but if you do things right now, you won't have to do all this again later..........
That's good idea about using the spare. Primo I appreciate your help.
Yeah I'm still kicking. I can't do any work untill the weekend :/ pretty lame. hopefully I can get it all buttoned up within the weekend

hahahaha.
but like i said, there's nothing quite like the special pain involved in lifting that head up at full arms length while having the hood latch bury itself in your gut.

no prob., just tryin' to give you a hard time on top of your hard time already. As for the other folks on here, I was just asking him to send me a care package full of homegrown snacks(just missin' the warm island air and the smell of the ocean, not to mention the mud on the trucks). If you folks ever make it out to any of the pacific islands, don't do any of that touristy . Get with the locals and try some of the real grub, then you'll know what i'm talkin' about. I think you guys call it "comfort food". Rogerman, get back to the studies, so you can wrench on flyday......... fade to black....

ROGERMAN....if you give said food to one you must provide for the whole class.....and by that I mean me and LUMPY....and by me and LUMPY I mean ME and I'll give whatever is left to LUMPY.
