Are they clear coated? Whats the best way/product to clean them and remove oxidation?

yes, i believe they are clear coated to prevent oxidation. if you had access to a sandblaster, i'd imagine this is the easiest route. otherwise, i'd try paint stripper, just don't get it on the tire. once stripped, you can polish them and then re-clear if you want. i've always loved the sr5 wheels when i had them, i'd strongly consider doing this if i was restoring a set. very subtle change that really makes them pop:

Thanks, theyre not too bad yet. I'll try some good ole never dull and elbow grease until i take them off for awhile, then try that. I really like them myself.

A little off topic but did they only come in 7" wheel width ?
I am pretty sure 7" only but my mechanic seems to think they
also came in 8" ??

fairly certain they were only 7", even for the ones that came on the Land Cruisers in the early 90s. I think the only way you're going to get 8" out of these is to convert them to beadlocks. There were pics up on the net of some that were converted, but i can't find them anymore. They were by forum user "cebby" and were converted by Champion Wheels.

I've always wondered about the finish on these SR5 wheels, seems like all the pics I've seen the early models 88,90,91 have a shinier finish and the later 93-95 have a more matte finish. My 94's are pretty dull and doesn't appear to ever had a clear coat. Anybody else notice this?

My '94 alloy wheels have a "machined" finish. You would probably call it shiny, not matte. And I'm pretty certain they have a clear coat of some sort.

That's interesting, my 94 has always been garaged according to the original owner, they are dull and no sign of clear coat. I,m thinking of painting them with duplicolor silver wheel paint this Spring because I can't seem to get a shine out of them as is.

If they're just dull with no spotting never dull then polish will do the trick.
