Hi guys,

Going to be swapping in a newer W56 soon and will replace the clutch too (and rear main seal).

Had been planning on an Aisin OEM clutch kit (seem to be around $150 with everything, plus shipping), but called my local auto store and they have a SACHS complete kit for $101.

I know SACHS is a reputable brand, from the BMW world, but is there any reason I should insist on getting an Aisin kit instead of the SACHS one?

My Aisin clutch lated me 230,000 miles...good enough for me.

I don't know enough about the SACHS clutch to be of any use, but I do know for the price difference I would just go with the Aisin.

I want quality of OEM, which I know Aisin is....but wondering if SACHS is just as good, since it's cheaper and local?

 

I'm sure it's a decent clutch... but the reputation of Aisin is unbeatable. You simply don't hear of other clutches lasting as long as most of those Toyota used. For the price, I'd go OEM.

PS Marlin Crawler uses an Aisin pressure plate, Seco disc, and Nachi pilot bearing. Can't remember what release bearing is included... but it's not all Aisin stuff, so they aren't the be-all and end-all. That said, you can't go wrong with an Aisin unit.

my friend owns a transsmission shop and when i built my 87 he said SACHS was a great clutch and advised me to use it, good enough for me is a 23 yr old transmission shop haha!

Actually, you are the one making is hard.

If you want the best clutch kit on the market, get the Marlin setup.

If you want to save money, go down from there. That's where it gets difficult.

A sachs was put in my truck with an engine exchange. It failed within 2 yrs. Admittedly, I abused the daylights out of it, but for 50 bucks I would get the real deal. Good luck.

 

I saw the marlin kit last night when first suggested. I agree it's likely the best kit. I don't wheel all the time so just looking for oem quality solution.was settles on aisin, but if I can save fifty bucks and not pay shipping for a brand that is just as reputable, that's what I wil likely do.

I have put them in all my Yota's. I sold my 93 with 352,000 miles on an Aisin and it is most likely STILL going on that clutch.

 

maybe this would help.. I just made up this guide so feel free to make suggestions. This was what I was thinking when I thought my clutch was going out. I was going to go Marlin because I really don't want to deal with clutch issues, and I wheel a little, adding sliders, front and rear bumper soon.

Marlin If you rock crawl/inchworm gear/big tires/Tow ( going to put high torque on your drive train)

WabFab clutch kit mix of Aisin/Seco close to the same as Marlin, except marlin says they have upgraded the the kit a little

Aisin don't mind paying the extra money for a known good clutch medium wheeling, light motor upgrades , near stock tire size, no towing, no extra armor plans

Sachs mostly street driving, no big upgrades

 

Thanks outsane, that helps put in perspective. Didn't realize the wabfab kit was "hybrid"as well. Think I will go that route...he has a yt discount and I think some free shipping deal this month?
