What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the cone type filter you find at auto parts and ebay compared to the afm thats on it factory. is it worth the money and what all is involved with changing it to the cone filters

The AFM is required for your EFI.

ahh.. got it..
Advantage: potentially more air flow = hp
disadvantage: K&Ns have been shown to let in more dirt as well as more air.

I don't know what's on ebay, but you need to keep your AFM - not the box itself, but the sensor that's setup in there. IF you can fit a cone in there, it's entirely possible.
