Air box

The previews owner attempted to build a budget cold air intake and basically failed IMOP. Yesterday I took a little time and deleted the longer section of the pipe he had installed and it seems to run a little bit better. My question is there a easy stock upgrade I might be able to find in a bone yard to replace the air box. I am also not sure about his vacuum line job.

This is how it looks now after I removed a section of the pipe. The silicon connectors are a little to big and the clamps are cheap.

It might not seem like a big issue to some but the constant whistling from under the hood is annoying and even worse the chattering sound it makes when letting off the throttle at low speeds is driving me crazy.

I also don't like the fact that every thing is just flopping around under the hood and the fact the air filter is completely exposed.

May as well hit a Yard and get the complete stock intake system

Perhaps Ebay

Most people make a bracket to attach the AFM to the inner fender to hold it in place

Like Wyoming says, and/or build partition to isolate filter from hot engine compartment. AND get rid of those non-stock spade connectors and vampire tap (looks likes); they're potential points failure. Instead of those, wrap joined wires around each other, solder, coat with liquid "electrical tape", heat-shrink.

Unfortunately I have not been able to locate a 88-95 yota in the bone yard as of yet. They are rare in the rust belt and get parted out fast. I am in contact with a guy who is parting one out on CL and hoping to get the hole assembly from him.

As for the connectors I think they are for the remote start. And I agree the shop did a poor job.

Holy hell, if a shop did that someone needs to have a word with them...That is a terrible way to wire anything in...

However for the intake, I have a very similar setup and yeah, you have to like the noise or it will annoy the hell out of you..but also need to have some hard mounting point...

Well some good news after a lot of searching. I found a guy locally who has a few old yota's rusting away in his back yard and picked up the what I hope is every thing for $40. He had a few other misc things I needed for another $10 so I think I did ok. I am going to head to the parts store tonight and grab a air filter and hopefully report back.

Started to scrub down all the misc components and hoses. I would like to use some rust solvent on the metal parts and shine up the plastic but maybe another time. For now it's dawn dish soap and then sitting in the sun to dry. I was worried about contamination in the intake track that could get sucked into the motor so this seemed like a logical steep.
