air bag light
Guys- I have a question in reference to my 1995 Toyota Camry. I usually end up at YotaTech since other Toyota forums don't seem to have the right advise. I took off my steering wheel and air bag to re-position the steering wheel. I reinstalled both and now my air bag light will not go off. It is flashing a code 14 using the TC and AB terminals from under the hood. (data link connector) After grounding the TC and AB ports per Toyota's reset procedure- the light still continues to stay on. I don't believe the air bag failed once i removed it?? Any experience in resetting an air bag light or am I stuck taking the car to my dealer???

not 100% but it should have a cable that cannot travel beyond it's limits, just sits in there like a spring behind the steering wheel. pull the sir fuse and never probe a circuit where the air bag is connected. it takes very low power to set it off. but you can disconnect it and the connector at the column, and test the continuity in the column. once again, disconnect the bag and connector first. people have died by simple probing. it's likely a problem there.

Pulled the steering wheel and all looks ok- not sure how to check the wires- behind a cover is the spiral type wires- horn still works- not sure how to check the continuity of the air bag wire- any suggestions? thanks!

to check continuity, make sure the air bag and column connector ends of the wire are not connected, and probe ohms between the column connector and where the air bag will plug into. should only be 2 wires, marked by yellow or orange. one lead at the column connector and one at the air bag connector. just a reminder: if you use most meters to test the air bag or a circuit connected to an air bag, it can ignite it, so never do that. that coil wire you see is basically what you are testing. afterwards, do the reset procedure mentioned.

Tried the resetting method mentioned above- no luck-
after removing the air bag and steering wheel- my air bag connector is exposed- blue and yellow wire if I remember correctly- what reading am I looking for testing for ohms? Or continuity? On the continuity check- if I touch a probe to each wire connector- I should not hear the beep sound- right? Also I ran the car without the air bag installed- will this make a difference? thanks again!

cleared the code- ran two wires from the TC/AB port from the diagnostic port under the hood to the negative side of the battery. alternated between TC and AB touching the negative post on the battery- did this about 35 times- check the airbag light and it was out!!!
