I don't think rancho makes torsion bars anymore. I have those on my truck. Rides kinda stiff, don't really like it. But they are there and I don't plan on changin em out. Sas is where I plan to go eventually.

I'm sure if you searched you could find some links and reviews from members.

 

no need for stiffer torisions unless you got a big heavy bumper and a winch..

even then, the mild bars (I think OME has the smallest bigger aftermarket t-bars) are the best bet

 

i got sway-a-ways many many years ago from 4wheelparts. actually only like 4 years ago

 

After some browsing, I came across Ironman Torsion Bars. Can anyone vouch for this company?

 

Never heard of them Do a search and try to find some TRD ones.. I had those in my 88 and loved them.

 

I have the OME torsion bars on my rig. I bought them from 4 wheel parts. $175 plus tax for the pair.

They are the smallest of the aftermarket bars. I put them on after I put on an ARB Bull Bar and M80000 winch. The stock bars were too soft for the extra weight. With the new bars, everything feels stock.

Why do you need new bars? I have my stock ones, 130k miles on them, you could have them for cheap.

Sounds like you've got your heart set on it, but I would recommend against stiffer aftermarket t-bars. I have Downey 26mm t-bars, and the ride is very rough even when they're relaxed all the way. Every little bump rattles your brain...

 

Unless you need the extra stiffness of larger bars, like mentioned for a heavy bumper, winch, maybe engine swap... stick with stock t-bars and get better shocks. I might contemplate uprated bars in conjunction with a lift of some sort, like BJ's so you don't have to crank the stock bars to ungodly stiffness to dial in the lift you want. Then I'd prolly go Sway-Away 25mm bars. That's what's on my 91 2wd / Fabtech lift and though they are stiff, they don't jar you around- no doubt thanks to shocks that aren't over-damped on compression.

But now I think about it- 2wd, your nick is "Supra Truck"... why do I think you want a stiffer bar so you can lower it without risking bottoming out as easily?
Even then, I'd prolly do sway-away bars and some good remote-reservoir / adjustable shocks so you can dial in some aggressive compression and moderate to high rebound dampening.

 

I *just* installed an OME kit on my '87.
love it. rides like a truck, but not jarring.
nice handling and control.

 

Supra Truck = I'm planning on putting a supra motor in and yes, the truck is lowered. I'm rubbing everywhere I go. My front end is just to soft.

 

what did you do to lower it? I used to have a 2wd, but I can't remember for sure whether the t-bars were adjustable. are they? and did you lower your truck by releasing the tension?

 

Are there any OEM (Stock) bars that can be used from one truck/generation to upgrade another generation?

I.E. can you take the stock bars from a '95 Runner and put them on a '88 Pickup or something along those lines?

 

Finally, I got some Sway A Way torsion bars for my truck. 27.5mm Race app torsion bars.

My ride is going to be stiff. Yesterday I was on the freeway, took the off ramp. Hit a bump and rubbed nasty. Wheel to fender. My tires don't look so good anymore.

These bars will solve my problem.

To lower a 2wd you have 2 options. 1. crank the torsion bars down and destroy the ride quality. 2. install drop spindles and lower controls arms.
You could also flip you BJ. This will give an extra .5" drop.

I've gone with option 2. This gave me a 5" drop in front total. I have about 1-2" clearance between the top on the wheel and fender. Hence, why I need the torsion bars.

For the rears, I just installed some 3" blocks but I'm considering some drop leafs.

 

Those bars will definitely stiffen your ride up.
As for the rears, you might be able to 3-link it and use airbags instead of leafs. It'll help with axle wind up.
