Are there any aftermarket EFI air intake kits/manifolds for a 22REC?? I can't find any info on this in the FAQ or on the web

i believe you can get ported and polished manifolds from downey and from lc engineering as well as throttle bodies

The only commercially available manifolds that I am aware of are like this one which is actually a side draft carb manifold to which you can fit individual throttle bodies. It's quiet pricey and unless you have substantial engine modifications you probably would not see real benefits. also I have seen a couple of small bits here and there that indicate that there might be some overheating issues with these due to the thermostat passage being connected to the smaller front coolant passage.

I did extensive modifications to my manifold which included complete fabrication of the plenum here is a link to that thread

with out the extreme porting I think you would be fine with just doing something with the plenum and getting a bigger throttle.

What year truck do you have?
If you've got a pre-1989 (I believe the year is right) 22RE, your upper plenum is angled at the throttle body - this causes some restriction.
You can replace it with a 89-95 plenum, bolt-on, and get a bit more throttle response.

Remember, the intake is a flow system - so it's metered in a couple of places.
The AFM has a "door" with a specific area, the stock throttle body is 55mm, and then you go into the plenum. Making one part bigger without addressing the others isn't going to do you a ton of good.


To answer your question specifically, I know of one shop that is doing aftermarket plenums for the 22R-series. He does beautiful CNC work. The upper plenum is still under development, last time I checked.
