advice on 3.4 swap
i have a 1990 toyota pickup with the 3.0 L and automatic transmission. i want to swap this with a 3.4l and a 5 speed tranny. what would go into doing all of this? from what i have seen the motor will mount up fine but all of the wiring and exhaust is the challenging part. what would you recommend i do? do the swap or rebuild my 3.0 and auto tranny. if anybody has a write up on this or can direct me to a write up that shows me how to do this that would be awesome.

Mechanically, yes, the 3.4 will bolt up in place of your 3.0, engine mounts and transmission but that's where it ends.
Just about everything under the hood will have to swap sides, because the intake on the 3.4 is routed to the passenger side vs. the driver's side with the 3.0.
Electrically, everything is different.
Read through the stickies and a 5-10 of the various builds to get an idea of what you're getting yourself into. If there's nothing wrong with the 3.0 (aside from being a 3.0), I would leave well enough alone for now, do as much research as you can, and start looking for a donor.

You can do the swap for basically the same price as rebuilding your current rig, especially when you factor selling your old engine/tranny if applicable. ToyOnlySwaps.com sells swap components or do it for you. ORS has a good overview and sells parts too: http://www.offroadsolutions.com/tech...fe-conversion/
From a cost standpoint, they're the same. From a complexity standpoint, the swap is harder, but for me -- paying someone like ToyOnlySwaps ~$1500 in labor to do it for me is well worth saving me the pain and frustration of taking a month or two of frustration trying to do it myself... And I actually get something better from the end result of the effort. More power and better mpgs.
