I need to add power to a accessory fuse block and noticed that it looked pretty simple to add a second fuse next to the stock 80 amp fuse.

Looks like all I need is to upgrade the existing feed from the battery, pick up a new fuse and another brass screw. Seems too easy. Has anyone done this before?

 

Interesting idea. I have added a 2nd cable to upgrade the line to the alternator (part of big 3 upgrade), but I didn't notice the slot for another fuse. I purchased a 100 amp inline fuse for my extra fuse block.

 

There is a space for another fuse next to the main 80 amp fuse, but if you add another fuse there it would be a real good idea to upgrade the power wire from the fuse box to the battery with a heavier wire. I would go with at least 6 gauge battery cable at a minimum, the stock wire is 8 gauge.

Added a power antenna and want to add some lights and a compressor etc.

 

I was too lazy to find a stock screw...just used what I had.

 

yea...I thought so too so I added some 12 gauge wire I had in my electrical box.
It looked simpler to add a wire than to replace the factory 8 gauge. It is crimped to a brass plate that connects both sides of the fuse block. Toyota chose not to run the headlight circuit through the 80 amp fuse, which makes sense to me. I wouldn't want to lose both headlights if 1 fuse blew!

Just a note, my battery to fuse box line had a fuseable link. If you upgrade that I'd either keep that fuseable link or add another one.

I saw the pic and I'd be worried about the size of the wire leaving the 80a fuse. What gauge is that?

 

looks like 10ga on the right and 8ga on the left ? hard to tell without holdin THE WIRE in my hand lol

So, you're saying you can't "hold" your own?

 

Anyhow, I would be concerned that the wire connected to that 80 amp fuse can carry 80 amps. That is the point of having a fuse: the fuse blows before the wire burns.
