i added seafoam to a hot engine. i let it cool with hood open but i gess it wasnt long enough. my truck now makes a weird sound it didnt make before. i know i f'd up, but what exactly did i do to the engine?

 

where did you add it? into the oil or did you do an induction cleaning? I've added seafoam to a hot motor (oil) and didn't notice any problems with doing so. what's it sound like?

cant describe the sound but its loud

when it went in, it made the engine smoke. trucks runs the same but its just so lound and annoying i cant help but think i messed somthn up

i added seafoam to my brake booster on the 3.0 not too long ago.

i started the truck up hours after i started working (on my break in the parkinglot) and moved to a secluded spot and parked alone). i did my seafoam there too, and now i notice a cracking noise as well. hmmm i cant see that my truck would be that hot, i was able to open the hood without feeling any substantial heat.

get that sound clip up and ill tell you if mine sounds the same. if so, we have the same problem.

 

i've done seafoam through the booster on both my 3VZE and 22RE, two applications each, both times motor at normal operating temp, with no ill effects whatsoever.

did you pour the stuff into the booster slow enough? wasn't it oly who hydrolocked his motor a while ago and bent a rod?

 

i hear a cracking noise that sounds like snap snap snap. or it sounds like i ran over some leaves too if the windows are cracked only a little. not sure what that could be, but its getting bad.

a bunch of smoke came out when i poured it in first (still running), but when i turned off the truck, and started it back up, nothing...

tighten your belts. Try little stuff first.

I did mine through the brake booster, didnt give me any wierd noises.

I did mine a few weeks ago...smoked like hell but I did not notice any significant change in drive ability.

 

I honestly think with sea foam that it's what comes AFTER the white smoke that is a tell tale sign of what is being cleaned, much like when guys blow a head gasket and it steam cleans a certain cylinder, I think that's what you are sort of doing with sea foam. If there is anything to be cleaned, it will probably come after the white smoke show screws off and then you'll start getting gunky blue-ish nasty smoke which is probably carbon.

 

this wasnt my first time running seafoam. the smoke that came out before came out through the exhaust, not the engine itself like it did this time.
i shut off the truck when it started smoking. when i started it again the noise was there

 

i vote cracked exhaust manifold, maybe cracked intake plenum. is the sound louder on one side?

 

yea, on the passenger side

and i dont like the sound of cracked parts

but if its the exhaust mani, i atleast have a reason to bug my family for a new header for xmas

If smoke came from the engine, then perhaps the seafoam cleaned out the manifold, removing the gunk that was covering a crack.

you should be able to feel the leak.

 

This is just my .02! When you add the Sea Foam you increase combustion temp and thus exhaust temp inside and on the outside the exhaust manifold. If you have any residual oil or residue on the manifold or exhaust pipe it will smoke off thus the smoke you saw under the hood. This increased temp and the cleaning properties of the Sea Foam clean your entire combustion system / track. The cleaning process will sometimes brake off chunks of carbon from the valves or piston tops and cause the sound you are hearing. I can’t remember if you said you did a second treatment shortly after or not but I would do the process again with the Sea foam just to see if it gets better or clears up. I would hate for you to tear a motor apart or buy equipment that is not necessary.

i also vote exhaust leakage.
check for smoke at start up inside the engine bay.
and
also headers for all 3.0's. as i heard heat from the manifolds are the killer of their head gasket failures.

i will do mine sometime by this summer. hopefully all goes well, and nothing else needs maintenance.

i also heard, that all of these trucks "diesel" at startup when using anything but a toyota oil filter. (i know my 22r didnt at first, but does now, using a quality aftermarket (from carquest), and now it does (also needs oil change soon).

i would do a oil change after any thing like that sea foam stuff (or even injector cleaner is used) detergents can leak down into the oil and thin it up alot.
