Talking Add Speakers Project

Hello All,
Some weeks ago when my son and I were getting some dash parts for his pickup, I spotted a familiar `94 4runner. Long ago, I had grabbed the factory radio/tape/CD player out of this 'runner, and had wired it up using my original pickup's harness.

Some decent parts still were left and I got these speaker assemblies ridiculously cheap:

Inside there's what I think is an amplifier based on the similarity to other amp circuits. Anyway, I finally got around to working on it for my `89 Xcab pickup. The 4runner's harness plug looks like this:

After scouring the forum for schematics and diagrams showing me what the three lesser-gauge wires on the left were for I came up with...nothing. The White/Red pair was easy; the pair for the left rear speaker, the right side is Yellow/Black.

I went to the local Toyota dealer who said, "We don't have any schematics...try Car Toys."

I drove to Car Toys this morning who said, "...can't find anything except what's on the internet." "Why don't you call this specialist re-builder up in such-and-such town? Maybe he can help."

When I got home I called the specialist who gave me some guesses but was not positive. I called two Toyota parts specialists about their speaker assembly, part# 86150-89107...they weren't much help either. No schematic to be found. (Heck, I even went to the O'Reillys and looked at their copy of a Chilton manual. No dice.

So here's the good news. Based on the ideas of the specialist guy, and after testing both speaker boxes in my pickup; I'm pleased to provide the following:

The White/Red and Yellow/Black pairs are easy, neg/pos speaker inputs. Left and right respectively.
The blue wire with the light green tracer is the constant 12v (+) input.
The brown wire is ground (GND)
The pink wire with the blue tracer is the switched 12v (+) input.

I never have figured-out what the single and double silver "hash" marks mean. Any ideas?

As for patching-in this assembly to my pickup's harness, I learned that it will only run when both the 12v (+) lines have voltage. In other words, you can't just use one or the other. You can splice both together - that tested OK, but I plan to use the separate IGN 12v (+) and BTY 12v (+) leads for the install. Adding these two speakers with amps really made for some nice tunes in my rig. After all, `80s rock 'n' roll really doesn't sound better when the volume is down.

I hope this post saves someone some time...I spent most this weekend looking for that dang schematic. Enjoy, I know I will... *que the Metallica*

(Edit: 10/28/2014. Here's the .zip file download schematics link for a 2003 4Runner.)
