ADD 3rd member question

I have an 87 4Runner with factory 4.10 gears and am about to pick up some 4.88 factory 3rd members. The rear seems like an easy job but the front of my truck doesn't have an ADD type axle. I have manual hubs. I have researched on how to delete the ADD but is it possible to just bolt my non ADD axle tube from my 4.10 diff on to the ADD diff with 4.88? Would I just be better off keeping the 4.88 ADD diff as and doing the standard ADD delete?

Thanks guys
Sam

If it came with the add axle tubes just just lock the add to the engaged position. Otherwise you need to take the add axle tubes and housing off and install a new oil seal and put your axle tubes on it which to me seems like more work for the same end result.

Thanks for the advice Yotard. I may still do the full swap. I don't know how I feel about trusting the functionalities if my entire 4wd system to a hose clamp. But that's what threadlocker is for right?

I'm doing the exact same thing to my 89 tomorrow. I had though all I had to do was swap the long axle tube. Sounds like there may be a little more to it. You say tubes but I only see the one. What is the other? What seal are you referencing? Sorry to thread jack!

Yeah it's just the long side axle tube that has to be swapped. The oil seal is on the end of the add housing. If you remove the add housing you have to put an oil seal on the diff before you put your axle tube on.

Pry it out with two big screwdrivers you won't hurt anything.

Pulled the cover off and popped it from the inside.
