Been getting it more and more lately and not sure where to start. It's a hesitation that kicks in at that point on the gas pedal where the second barrel opens up... I have the 2.4L 2barrel 22R... I've run carb cleaner through the carb and that tends to reduce the issue for a little while (day or two?) but then it gets more pronounced again... just a slight hesitation if I go from putting down the road to- floor it! Ideas?

 

Fuel pump!!!! Check your fuel pressure. I had same issue

 

Hmmm, really??? 22R, not 22R-E... it's a mechanical pump... I recall replacing it once a loooong time ago... I think because it was failing and leaked? (is there a weep hole in those?)... I'm probably way off but would think a pressure issue would be more of an electronic pump issue? If you still think it's a mechanical pump pressure issue, what kind of pressure should I have?

I spot a $20 fuel pump on Amazon for it so that probably would be the fastest way to go instead of buying a fuel pressure tester that probably costs more than that! lol

I'm leaning more towards something gummed up in the carb since running carb fluid through it seems to reduce the issue for a day or two.... not completely but does feel noticeably better.... In my younger days driving my parents' car that had a 4 barrel, I remember there always was a slight hiccup when you opened it up sooooo, it sorta feel like that except with a 2 barrel and less pronounced... but just seems more pronounced these days than it possibly used to be.... after spraying a bottle of carb cleaner, it feels pretty normal... I did buy a new carb for this truck about 15 yrs ago.... so it's not as old as the truck (1986)...

I would support the fuel pump being culprit if it weren't that the problem seems to correct itself when I clean the carb out a bit... I have had the truck stall a couple times when goosing it shortly after starting it up and that would seem to point me to either the fuel pump or I've replace the module on the thing before using a chev module mod. and hear those go out more often than the stock module soooo, that issue hasn't repeated itself enough to be able to figure it out yet....

 

Replaced the fuel pump... it was probably due just based on age. It seems not much changed.... meanwhile, noticed radiator being low on a few occasions... seems I have a blown head gasket as recently I have begun to have some smokey exhaust :-( Poor girl... That may be part of the acceleration stumble...
