First, I've searched the threads and have found relevent info.
Here's the story. Only owner/operator '87-22r RN-55 ( I really like my old toyota). AC has worked without problem except: did a radiator fan experiment in 1999 and (I think) overheated the AC--no air through the condenser--resulting in explosive evacuation (what I could find was the receiver/drier plug had blown). $600 later the low-pressure valve and r/d plug were the only parts replaced. Worked fine until Tuesday. I could hear noise in the vicinity of the low-pressure valve (around the heater core) for three days, air is cold. Truck sat for three days. Today, no cold air, and receiver/drier window showed only "spitting" of fluid. Redding CA is 110+ x many weeks!

Any opinions?

After the AC repair in 1999, a wierd and dangerous symptom demonstrated itself. The manner in which the AC idle normally changes when the compresser comes on-line reversed (normally idle-up for compresser, idle-down when compressor goes off-line), and a major "stumble" in off-the-line acceleration from idle with the AC engaged started (as in the engine would completly quit off-the-line like the ignition was turned off--dangerous in a busy intersection). If I pump the accelerator pedel I can minimize this, but has remained present from the day I got my truck from the AC repair shop (and the blew me off like I was a fool--#&%(#&@(@*!--I am still very mad as a consumer about that. I would go without many things before I will walk again into that establishment).

I'm going to fix this. Shop, of myself???

THere is a little idle up adjuster on teh intake. Have you seen that? Maybe you just need ot adjust that? Sorry if you already knew that.

Thanks. I did not think to look at that (after all these years). Stupid question--are you referring to a EFI (22re)? I do have a 22r (carb). And, it is an automatic.

Any thoughts on the loss of R12? The shop that did the 1999 repair did place dye into the R12. Would that still be present (to look for from where it leaked).
