A340H Transmission Problem

Hello
my 1991 4runner I've had since new, transmission acts up only when cold.
may slip momentarily in foward but after it catches, it is all good from then on. Foward is good in all gears including overdrive.
Reverse on the other hand is not available or slipping until it is warmed up.
It is solid as a rock after it is warmed up. no slip at all.
it has been flushed recently and fluid level is correct.
it has been going on for 8 months approximately.
it wasn't an issue in the middle of summer.
any guru's out there with any idea?

thanks for any help or comments.

I am not a guru. In any sense.

The FSM points out only two on-vehicle-servicable items that might lead to slipping; the linkage and the throttle cable. The adjustment of each can be found here: http://web.archive.org/web/201408160...32prelimin.pdf

It all points to being at operational temperature.
reverse will not engage until idle down warm up. Forward works when cold and on high idle.
it is a controls issue because it all works well after warm up.
