95 runner 3.0 needs help

the problem started only when wet then progressed to just about all the time. The truck acts like it has a rev limiter around 1850 rpms. It goes up to 1850 then drops then just bounces around between about 1000 and 1850.

I have no check engine light on. I just changed the distr cap and rotor, plugs wires and air filter.

I do recall a time in the summer (when replacing exhaust) that I saw a spark almost an arching at the coil. Could not pinpoint origin or destination but it did stay between the coil and the igniter.

I am going to a yard today to grab a few igniters and a coil and maybe a tps to see if that fixes the issue before dropping the big bucks on those parts.

If anyone has any insight to this issue please help......

Agree with your direction..... I also have a 95 3vze--always a bit of a rough start when damp, but new wires, cap and rotor would usually fix.

Couple of weeks before my HG failure, the engine starts were really rough and it needed 'pedal-feathering' to idle, and take almost two miles of driving before it would run smoothly. I thought it was just wires again,....but it was coolant in the cylinder.

just put on the 'new' igniter and coil from the yard and it seems like it may be fixed, the only thing i noticed is that i have to ease into the throttle if i punch it, it does the same thing briefly before rising.

Also noticed a couple of small breaks in the wiring going to the igniter that weren't noticed before. The igniter is not the exact same numbers as the one I took off. The one I put on had 201 on it mine had a Pxx number on it. Don't know if that makes a difference. We will see as I drive it through the weekend.

Nice. Hopefully that fix (or that cracked wire) will be it. And,.... you did something really constructive on a Saturday morning.
I'm still shuttling kids and trying to clean house.

I had a 97 wrangler (piece of crap) that started doing the same thing. ONLY when it had rained, or was really humid and damp out.... I changed everything I could think of and never did get the problem solved. Ended up selling it to a guy for cheap. Mainly becuase I was tired of jeeps and wanted to get back into yotas. It was a dark phase of my life. . . . but I came back into the light. Or maybe it's opposite. Good luck!
