pretty sure the c.s.i. wont matter above 50*F... thats for cold starts... unless it DOES spray above 50*, that would mean its defective, or the csi time switch is bad.

I still say, run a compression test! the tester can be had for $20 at napa, and could save you a lot of time searching for something that dosent exist...

 

Would compression cause the truck to start sometimes and not start at other times

 

If by sometimes you mean hard start when cold, but starts fine when warm, then yes...

but... if you mean, starts hard when cold 2day, but fine 2morrow even tho its the same ambient temp... then no...

Do you smell fuel when it cranks but wont start? and then when u get it started it blows a bit of black smoke? Gas in ur oil at all?

 

It seems like wen we take parts and clean them and put them back on the truck starts up normal put once u turn it off again it does the same thing. No black smoke never comes out of the exhaust

 

Even still... I'd run the compression test, then go from there.... It literally takes 15-20 min to do and at the very least, you will know if ur motor is healthy or not...

I sure will second you on that! We had an old Ford mini-pickup ( Courier? ) that we totally destroyed the compression in by washing the oil off the cylinder walls trying to start it. My son did it, but I might have too, if I had'nt learned at his expense. It eventually would turn over like it had no plugs in it at all! Totally ruined that engine with starting fluid!
