Quick question: So now need to find a used ECU my question is will a 3.0 v6 ECU work with the 2.4RE and I pretty sure have to be for manual also?
I bought a 1995 4 runner manual 5sp 4x4 with the 22RE 2.4L motor, but it did not run when got it was told it had a bad fuel pump. I just replaced the fuel pump and am getting fuel now (cold start spays when cranked.) But the only way to get it to start is with starter fluid run for a few sec then die, so I was going to troubleshoot the cut start relay to pull the kick panel and to my surprise there is no ECU! Bolts still sitting there connectors all there. So now I need to find a used ECU. My question is will a 3.0 v6 ECU work with the 2.4RE and I pretty sure have to be for a manual also? I hope so because there are way more 3.0 ones out there and much cheaper.
Also if anyone has a good used one for sale would like to buy.
hanks for info. Looks like will need OE# 89661-3D070 which is only made 2 years. Man this is not going to be cheap I can already see cheapest one is $500 on Ebay up to $1k arg. I see 93 back have one for 4x4 and 2wd but this one is not Wonder what the differences are.
Guess this is the one: If anyone has one let me know. Also the 4runner doesn't really have any options no windows no locks no cruise, just manual 4x4 2.4L I wonder if any other ECU would work just to make it run right...
In many cases, when you see two Toyota trucks that are pretty much the same, but have1-2 years in age difference, the difference in the ECU's often have to do with emission parameters.
If you see a ecu being offered, and the part number ends in "-84" that is a part that was remanufactured by Toyota/Denso.
But yes, the 4 cyl in a 4runner does reduce options quite a bit. Even in Calif they were on the more rare side. I'd check the part number for trucks in that age bracket. They could very well have the same ecu. That would greatly increase your options.
If you post your model# and production date i can look. They're on the door jam vin decal
