4Runner developed a coolant leak that I can't even see somewhere between the motor and firewall. Took it to a shop who used a boroscope but can still only partially see a fitting below the intake with multiple hoses going to it, said he can see a gasket poked out and where it has been leaking. Looks like at least the upper intake has to come out but I'm having trouble finding a good schematic that shows this fitting, gasket, and the hoses I'd replace while I'm in there. Also, if anyone knows if anything else must come out to access this thing?

The Upper Intake is commonly called the Plenum, and yes, that would have to come off. You may be able to access it without removing the (lower) intake manifold, but it's a very tight squeeze. I'm pretty sure you'll need to remove the aft fuel cross-over, so don't forget to pick up a set (at least 4) of the crush washers. Strictly one-time use, a dealer item, but cheaper than dirt.

I'm a 6'4" 245lb power lifter so no, I don't fit and couldn't see the source of the leak, something I noted in my post. Since I couldn't see the leak what pictures were you expecting? I paid a shop with the equipment to find it; they used a borescope and still couldn't see the entire fitting. You sore about helping fellow Yota owners? Why are you here again? I do appreciate the pic and the parts of your post that were actually helpful, I just wonder if it is possible for people to simply be helpful on social media without acting salty behind the safety of a keyboard.

Scope103 is not usually this cranky. He must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or did not drink enough coffee.

It is difficult to see back in that area with the intake all assembled.

Did you or the shop pressure test the cooling system? Leaks tend to show up much better when under pressure.

How much coolant is leaking?

I am not super familiar with the 3VZE yet, so I do not have specific pointers for you.

As Scope103 said, the upper intake / plenum / Air Intake Chamber will have to be removed to properly inspect for the leak and to replace the leaking part(s).

The leak is definitely coming from the Water Bypass Outlet. I have the intake removed and have a somewhat better view of it but can only see or feel one mount bolt on left (passenger) side. There is a deeply recessed hole on the right (drivers) side but can't tell if there is a fastener in there or not. Anyone happen to know how this thing is mounted?

Should be just like the drawings show. Two studs with nuts above. The recess you described should have a nut.

Be especially careful with the device with two vacuum ports (looks like the letter "F"). This is the Thermal Vacuum Valve, controls the Evap Canister, and because of its location and age the plastic upper part tends to be VERY fragile.

Thanks for the reply, looks like it will be a few days on parts so considering doing the injectors while I'm in there. Any opinion on the 4 port vs stock 3 port version?

Unless you are building a performance engine that requires different fuel injectors, I would just use the stock injectors.
