95 2wd 4runner specs help
My wheeling partner, who aint on the web much, has the aformentioned runner affectionatly titled RLDRNR...
Now my main question is-is it possible for this rig to have come with a factory locker?
some say no but I'm pretty sure it has one for the following reason-on hard packed clay based washes his tire chirps while turning when his"locker" is engaged.
I have doubt though because when he pushes the button, located on the center console, the dash lights up ect???
now for a while it was not working so we removed what i thought was the locker actuator and from its looks i was further confused
It had a single large gauge wire going into it, and looked like a rubber plug with 2 pieces as if when turned on it would expand thus doing something
Well we cleaned it and changed his diff fluid and lo and be hold it is "working" again. i wont see him until tonight to see first hand, but he says something is engaging...
any links and info appreciated.
Mike

the ECT power button stands for electronic controled transmissoin. it just makes the tranny shift higher in the gears. i think 96 (first year of the third gen 4runner) was the first year they put a locker in the 4runners, and with that it was only in 4WD vehicles. there are no 2wd 4runners with lockers stock.
and you only gave us an hour and 22 minutes between posts, give us a break

yeah sorry about my impatience...
Now like i said his tires chirp around high traction corners and there is a strange "plug/solenoid" on the pumpkin and something seems to happen back there when the ect button is pushed...
i have heard that there was no available locker on that truck as well...

maybe the previous owner put one in there.
the plug i think you're talking about is the ABS sensor, im not sure, we'd need a picture.
many times tires will chirp going around a turn slowly, thats simply the rubber rurning on the ground and making a sound, unless it is a noticable binding/chirping

based on your thread name im taking it as a 2wd 4runner. those didnt have lockers from what i know. but i think the new prerunner tacomas with the TRD package have lockers. that means nothing just thought i would through that out there. but if its a 4wd 4runner the tires do that in 4wheel drive from what ive experienced. but if its not 4wd then that means nothing also...

yeah2wd, and yeah i have a toy e lock on my taco.
abs sensor, i thought those were towards the outside of the axle, at least on the newer axles.
what i really need i guess is a picture of the locker actuator...i'll search some write-ups for a pic. and its a 2nd gen runner thanks for that fact L33!

As far as I know the ABS sensors are outer on the newer 4 wheel ABS systems. The older system had to sense both tires skidding (not 1) because it was in the diff. Somewone correct me if I am out here.
