Welcome to YotaTech.

Everybody learns in a different way, but for me, I learned the most just by reading the Factory Service Manual (FSM). http://web.archive.org/web/201208120...buchanan/93fsm

Of course, hanging around here probably won't hurt. Just be sure to read all the comments, and not just any one comment. Including this one.

Another great way to learn all the fun stuff: GO DO IT!

Get an FSM, and follow the directions on how-to, but there are always little "tricks" that the Book doesn't mention. The best way to learn them is to just go do them.
Start simple. Change the oil, and/or water. Pull the distributor cap and rotor to replace them. Replace the transmission and transfer case oils. As you do these things, you will get not only experience, but you'll learn the little things. How to get to the radiator hoses without getting soaked. How to use a universal joint on your wrench to reach the spark plugs. The list is endless, and the only way to learn is to do.
Reading is great, no question, but it will stick with you best after you've done it. Probably more than once.
You'll also learn what different parts mentioned in the FSM, like the PCV valve for example, look like when they're installed and dirty. A lot of things look different when installed, and covered with oil, dirt, grease, or all three.

You can also learn new tricks, that The Book doesn't mention, to make your life easier. How to install grease-zerts on the drive line, so you don't have to pull the little bolts they have from the factory. That way, not only is greasing your U-joints a lot quicker and easier, but you make much less mess when they're installed in advance, not to mention much easier to get to. There's one trick for you right off the bat

I wish you great good fortune in all your new adventures, and this forum is a fantastic source not only of information, both basic, and complex, but a lot of tips and tricks. Read them, heck, print them out and take them out to the truck with you, and get your hands dirty
Pat☺

All good advice above, AND. Tell us exactly what you have. Put Truck-Model-Year-Engine-Transmission-Trim on your signature. That will save you and everybody the trouble of asking same questions and answering them over and over every time you have a post or a question.

AND use the "Google" option when searching the forum. "Threads" and "post" options are worthless.
