old post i know but a helpful tip .......if you have manual hubs you can remove the half shaft with the wheel still on, did it on my old 89. but if you have the add you have to get the dust cover off , which if i am not mistaken needs the wheel removed.

just did my CV's on the Tacoma, very easy to do, I've not messed with my 4runner/2nd gen though with the difference in front end.

I found a performance tool socket at a local autoparts store (Cut Rate Auto) for $12 I think? not too bad. 1/2" drive also.

I really wanted to do the manual hub conversion but time/$$ didn't allow it this round.

hope she turns out good!

I kinda wished I had kept my OE axles and rebuild them myself but with 1sttoyota parts being about 40 minutes away, the price was too good to pass up. I think I paid $250 total for both remanned axles, peace of mind over the off brand. Sure, lifetime warranty but I don't want it to break out on the trail or spend more time messing with them.

Go OEM!
